How to Clean and Maintain Carpet Tiles?

By: Richard Dinae

Carpet tiles have become more popular because of its affordability and low maintenance. They can be used for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, or any surface you wish to be carpeted. They come in standard sizes and in hundreds of patterns to fit every client’s preference. The great thing about carpet tiles is you can personalize your carpet. If you fancy mismatching the various patterns or create some sort of mosaic, you can always buy carpet tiles of different designs and put them all together. This is not possible to do with a traditional roll of carpet.

Because carpet tiles do not need overlaying before installation, this significantly decreases the cost for putting them in. They are so convenient and easy to install that you yourself can manage to do it on your own. It is as simple as cleaning the floor surface, applying adhesive on the back of the tile, and fitting the tile in place. Doing the floor tiling yourself is a good idea especially if you want to save some money. Like the vinyl tiles, carpet tiles can be trimmed to fit the edges of the room perfectly. When fitted properly, carpet tiles can look like a single piece of continuous carpet but with traditional carpet, no mater how much you try to conceal the edges of two sheets on a surface, they will still look broken and irregular. That is why for larger surface areas, a large carpet sheet that can encompass the entire surface is pre-ordered. Here are some tips on how to clean and maintain carpet tiles:

Cleaning Carpet Tiles

You clean carpet tiles almost the same way you clean a traditional carpet but with more advantages. You clean them with a vacuum just like regular carpet and you may apply carpet stain remover to get rid of stubborn food, ink, mud, or grease stains. You can also shampoo the tiles if you wish to have them thoroughly cleaned. With carpet tiles, you can choose to remove just the few tiles that you want to wash without disturbing the surrounding areas. In shampooing your tiles, apply the detergent on the removed tile and lather it on the carpet side. Use a soft-bristle brush so as not to destroy the fibers of the carpet. Avoid soaking the tiles in the detergent for so long because this may cause the dye of the carpet to run and fade in color. A faded tile will look bad when fitted back in. If you do not want to hand wash these tiles, you have the option of washing them in the washing machine. After washing, dry the tiles completely. Moist can encourage the growth of mildew on your carpet so be sure to have them properly aerated and sun dried. Replace the tiles on the floor with adhesive.

Maintaining Carpet Tiles

Carpet tiles are very easy to maintain. Unlike the traditional carpet, carpet tiles can be replaced individually in case a stubborn stain will not come off or in case a few tiles have worn off. This saves money as you do not have to replace the entire carpeting of your floor. Replacing a few tiles does not set you back any amount too because you can do the task yourself. It pays to order extra tiles though so you can replace any tile that needs fixing right away without heading to the nearest home depot. For your carpet tiles to last long and to look good and clean, avoid smearing or staining them. But of course, you can always replace them if you want.
