Finding the Right Vacuum For Rugs

By: Simon Tuft

Most of us live very busy lives, and when we come home from work or from transporting the children to and from various activities, we find that we don’t have much time or even the inclination to handle ongoing cleaning tasks. That’s why many people do not vacuum as regularly as they should. Vacuuming your home, however, is very important and should be on the list of tasks that you do at least a few times a week so that you can ensure you eliminate all of the dust and allergens living in your rugs. This can improve the air quality in your home as well as the overall health of your family.

Illness Caused by Rugs?

Some people are surprised when they learn illness can be a result of the dirt, dust, and allergens inside their rugs. It’s hard to remember, though, that as human beings, we shed millions of skin cells every single day, and those end up landing on our rugs and in thousands of other places around our homes along with dust mites, pet hair, and other allergens. That alone can cause sneezing and coughing. Activities like these lead to a release of mucus and germs into the air, and some of these germs go into the carpet. There the germs could find a home in your child or spouse, all of which can lead to ongoing illness in your home.

The Right Vacuum

In order to make your home a healthier place, you need to not only vacuum your house frequently, but you need to have the right vacuum. The type of vacuum that you need to buy depends on the house and rugs that you have. If you have lots of pets in your home, for instance, you will be looking for something that has a great deal of suction power and that is able to pick up the pet dander and hair without clogging all of the time. If you are living alone or with just a partner, and you don’t have many pets, something with a bit less power should work well for you.

It is also important that you keep in mind how thick your rugs are. If you have rugs that are very thick, you’ll also need to have a stronger vacuum in order to get the rugs clean the way that they need to be cleaned. If you have rugs that are thinner and aren’t plush, you can often get away with having a model that has a bit less power, as you won’t find as much pet dander and skin cells in this type of rug that needs to be sucked up.

Before you select any rug to purchase, make sure that you do your homework. Ensure you get a model with the thickness and made from a material that you like. This homework can help you to find the perfect rug for your home and may be able to help keep everyone in the house healthy.
