By: Mike Lister

Window tinting is now becoming popular among homeowners because of the added protection it gives to homes. Other than its basic contribution in making your windows more attractive, it is now also used to protect your privacy, your lives and your properties. Homeowners realized that window tinting is a very significant process that every home should adopt and so they should take the adequate care for their tinted windows. There are few things to remember when taking good care of your tinted windows so that the tint can serve you well even for years.

1.) If your windows are newly tinted you need a little time before touching them so that you can be ensured that the tint and the adhesive are properly settled and took shape. The most ideal time in not interfering with the natural process of settling the tint is one week.

2.) Cleaning should only be done four to five weeks after the tint have been installed. Only soap and water is good enough to clean your windows you should avoid ammonia based cleaning products because this can cause reaction with the polyester base and adhesive that is on the tint.

3.) In cleaning the windows, avoid using harsh rags or any rough material that can create scratches to the surface. Wiping the tints gently with soft cloths or sponges is the most ideal way in taking away stains and dusts. Also, avoid harsh wiping when cleaning because this can also damage the tint base.

So as you can see, cleaning tinted windows is just a very simple process and you do not have to buy special soap or detergent just to wipe off dirt off the windows. If you can take good care of your window tints, the tint can even last up to 15 years. To make sure that your tints can last that long, avoid exposing tinted windows to sharp objects that can possibly damage or scratch the coating. A heavily scratched window will not look very nice and can also affect the overall appearance of the internal setting of your home. Another thing to avoid is placing stickers, gums, glues or anything that other people stick to their windows. Children can also damage the tint if they will stick anything on the windows or scratch the coat filament with their nails. Also take extra caution when you are moving furniture or things near the tinted windows to avoid scraping the filament.

Tinting windows have actually many benefits aside from the security and the aesthetic appeal it provides to our homes. It can also serve as extra insulation especially during winter preventing draught to easily penetrate through glass windows. In summer and when the air-conditioning runs, it can also prevent the cold air to escape out of the window glasses so in these cases we can also save on utility bills. The ray of the sun is also a damaging factor that can fade our furniture especially when they are constantly exposed to the rays. Window tinting can solve this problem by preventing the entrance of only a very small portion of the sun’s rays thus you still have proper lighting inside your home.
