Sure you do have countless area rugs in your home but are you sure that you know a great deal

about them aside from the fact that they has the power to transform a dull space into chic and

stylish one? Generally there are to classifications of rugs; natural and synthetic.

The two has similarities but in some ways they too have differences. Natural fibers comes from

plant and animal fibers while synthetic or man-made fibers are the end product of man’s studies

and research mixed with chemicals to replace the natural fibers which can be costly nowadays.

I don’t blame people from opting to buy economically-friendly products. But they one can still

buy affordable product yet as durable as the expensive ones. So if you are looking for an area

rug alternative that is as good is the expensive area rugs then you might try synthetic area rugs.

Nylon for example is commonly used in rug production. What makes this synthetic material an

ideal in rug making it its durable, elastic and soil resistant features? Nylon has the capability

to mimic the appearance and texture of wool though nylon doesn’t normally hold their worth

longer than area rugs made of wool or silk.

Even at this moment, there is still a big debate whether rayon is a natural or synthetic fiber. To

cut the chase, rayon is a man-made material derived from wood, or maybe it is acceptable to

call it a semi-synthetic as it manifest characteristics of natural fibers. With its resemblance to

silk, no wonder that often, rayon is used a area rugs making which gives the rug a silk texture

and touch. Rayon fibers have a tendency to melt if exposed to fire.

Polypropylene or Olefin is another in demand synthetic fiber in area rug making. These fibers

are durable, resistant to soil, mildew and stain and work well with dyes. Olefin makes area rugs

weight lighter giving it more possibility to shift and slide when placed in areas with very high

foot activity but low moisture absorption giving a rug a nice warm-feel.
