Care Tips For Lasting Flower Arrangements

There are several care tips for lasting flower arrangements to ensure that your flowers stay beautiful as long as possible. It is always lovely to receive a beautiful bouquet of flowers but disappointing when the start to droop only a day or two later. These tips are very easy to use and will take a very short amount of time.

It is important to keep fresh, clean water in the flower vase at all times. It is best to change the water each day if you can, though every other day is also acceptable. You want to completely get rid of any old water and then refill the vase with new water. Every few days you want to remove the entire arrangement from the vase and cut about 1/4 of an inch form the end of each stems. This allows the flower to easily draw in water. It is best to do this when you are changing the water.

Too much heat can cause flowers to wilt. There is a reason florists have large coolers where they keep flowers and cuttings. Make sure your flower arrangements are far away from radiators, stoves, very sunny windows and other heat sources. You also want to move the flower to a cool place at night. You can put them in the refrigerator, the basement or a cool porch area. Do be wary if putting the flowers in the fridge as you will need to change the temperature. Most normal fridges for food use are set too low.

Make sure you remove any dying leaves or drooping flowers each day. If you want to keep the arrangement looking as it was then keep adding new plant material as this will keep the arrangement looking full. If you do not want to keep adding new flowers and cuttings then take any good blooms and move them to a smaller vase.

It is also very important that you get good flowers and blooms in the first place. You should really look at the different bouquets when buying them as you want very fresh flowers. Make sure there are no rotting areas, yellowing, wilting, broken petals or brown marks. Damaged flowers will not last very long no matter what you do. Y

You should also look into which flowers last long as mini-carnations, carnations, alstroemeria, mums and daisies all have a long life span.

If you receive or flowers at work or cannot put them in water and flower food immediately then you want to keep them in a cool area. It is best that you unpack them as soon as you can. When first putting them in water cut the stems at an angle. Use a sharp knife as this is better than scissors. You also want to strip off any leaves that might sit in the water as these will promote bacteria growth.

If you follow these tips than your flower arrangement can last for several weeks. This is a great way to enjoy a beautiful gift or if you treated yourself to flowers. It only takes a very short amount of time to ensure that your flowers last as long as possible.
